The US Open National Playoffs – Men’s Championship features the winners or top finishers from each of the 16 sectional qualifying tournaments held throughout the country, with the men’s champion earning a wild card into the 2011 US Open Qualifying Tournament and a chance to qualify for the 2011 US Open.
The US Open National Playoffs – Men’s Championship will be held August 18-21 in conjunction with the New Haven Open at Yale in New Haven, Conn., the final Olympus US Open Series event of the year. The 16 men advancing to the men’s championship compete in a single-elimination tournament, with four men seeded according to the world rankings.
Last year, former University of Arkansas standout Blake Strode defeated former Top 75 player Cecil Mamiit, 2-6, 6-4, 7-6(1), in the men’s championship to emerge from the 859 men’s entrants as the inaugural US Open National Playoffs champion. His victory also earned Strode a spot in the 2010 US Open Qualifying Tournament, where he advanced to the second round.
