The US Open National Playoffs Championships are the second phase of the US Open National Playoffs. They feature the winners or top finishers from each of this year’s 13 sectional qualifying tournaments in a single-elimination tournament, with the men’s champion advancing to the 2012 US Open Qualifying Tournament.
The 2012 US Open National Playoffs – Men’s Singles Championship will take place August 17-20 in conjunction with the New Haven Open at Yale presented by First Niagara, an Emirates Airline US Open Series event. The 2012 US Open Qualifying Tournament will be held August 21-24 on the grounds of the US Open at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, N.Y.
Former University of Arkansas All-American Blake Strode, who deferred Harvard Law School to pursue a professional tennis career, has emerged as the men’s champion in each of the first two seasons of the US Open National Playoffs. On both occasions he won his opening match at the US Open Qualifying Tournament before falling in the second round. (A player must win three rounds to qualify for the main draw.)
